    My first Deer :)

I went out Monday this week, I can't recall the exact area but it was some private land up past Silverdale.

I managed to walk about 10km over the morning, and got up real close to some deer before they spotted us and ran off. Was amazing sneaking through the bush and getting covered in mud - testing how waterproof my boots are

We managed to spot a group and followed them around a valley. I managed to get to about 50m and got him right through the heart. What an amazing feeling to see him drop like that! I couldn't really drag him up to the flat bit but I help to skin and guthim and couldn't stop grinning the whole time.

Im hooked now and am itching to go out again!!! I'm getting the skin done and the meat will be butchered for me.

Im clearly a moron and can't figure out how to turn these pictures around ... sorry, haha

Good stuff Iggy. Good to see you doing the dirty work s well

My wife has shot everything but a deer. She doesn't like Venison so doesn't want to kill one. I keep telling her that it would get sold (when you could sell them) or eaten by someone.

Lately she has been trying the odd bit of Fallow and really liking it so maybe I can get her out for a fallow one day.

Yes yes yes! Its all part of the fun! I want to be able to do it all - so I can go out into the bush alone and do it all myself ... guess I'd better get a bit stronger as my arms are killing me from it haha.

As long as you have a good mentor and a sharp knife you will be fine.

I was lucky to have the father and mates I do to learn off.
My old man still gets out in his early 70s and reckons he can still teach me a trick or 2.

He probably could but I have supplied 99% of his game meat for the last 10 or so years
