The mystery of the North Arm Savage 308 lever action solved

The owner of the rifle that party before us found at North Arm has been found.
It came up on Hunt n Fish forum in a conversation on neighbouring block to North Arm.
They have contacted Heli sika and they are bringing it out to be picked up.

Gun after 15 years in the bush.

He said he had it on his shoulder as he and his mate were pushing through a bit of crap, all of a sudden he thought his shoulder felt light and the gun was gone. His mate following him never saw it. Hard to believe but true.
That was October 2000 18th to 19th they searched for a day but could not find it.
Had a full mag when lost.

Mystery solved

What I can make out from other forum that the guys were coming down from Pikiawatea when gun was lost.
The short conversation I had with Father and son who found it they were over at Blue duck area when they picked it up.
Not sure what status of boundary's of blocks were 15 years ago.
It was definitely found on North Arm side as Father and young bloke said they never left the river valley as only there for 2 days and did not hunt hard more of a dad and son outing.

Very true
even us we had some shit weather on that trip and a lot of discussion was around the gun.
We could not decide what to do with it and in last hour we decided it was not ours and it should stay on block.
I think that was the same feeling the Father and son had as they had it with there gear to bring out.

That is pretty darn cool that a lost item has been returned to the owner after all these years.

Yeah mate I don't blame you. Old Tohunga would tell you to leave it it where it lies or if you have do do something with it bury it, but only during daylight as you shouldn't work the soil after dark. A weapon discovered in that way is there for a reason
