Actually, where is Neckshot?
I neck shot a ton of goats with a .22 when I was a young teenage hunter, either center neck or off to the side drops them, the shock factor will cause enough trauma to make them hit the deck, smashed vertebra or not.
I trust you guys will help yourself at the opportunity to give me shit for this but if you shoot a deer strait through the shoulder is there any chance the bullet will stop when it hits the shoulder blade? Or is she pretty much toast with a shoulder shot. Cheers
I use a 7mm-08, sometimes the projectile will pass right through both shoulders, sometimes the projectile will sit just under the skin on the opposite side, either way the animal is seriously dead. Lungs, heart, shoulder bone joint and beyond, dead is dead, either its legs get swept out from under it, or running 20-30 yards then collapsing. Imagine getting hit by a bus at 100km per hour then not having the wind in you to get back up.... shoulder shot.
It can happen where a bullet will fail to make the engine room on a shoulder shot.
fragile projectiles close shots big animals covered in mud etc but with good bullet choice it isn't a problem unless you are using a 177 air rifle.
actually if it is broadside on and you aim half way up the body(lung shot) in line with the front leg you won't hit any bone at all, except maybe a rib.

A couple months ago I shot a donkey on the trot from 100yds in the base of the neck with my 375h&h. The sucker dropped on the spot, fair pole axed him.
Now I want to hear more about the donkey hunting.
+ 1 ,they use to complain a bit but you don't need a big caliber to neck shoot .
Pigs will go down like a sack if shit just the same neck shot with .22 .we found was best to use a solid projectile but worked fine.
Always used the .22 to knock over the beast for the freezer but they got the pill center of fore head .
