Remember a article written by an Aussie hunter about the "panther" he sited while hunting in the Kaimanawa's. Think it was when you could get Bundaberg rum cheap on the flight over.

I was hunting way out in North Canterbury on a particular occasion sleeping under a fly sheet, You know when you get that strange feeling you are being watched? I was glassing a clearing from my camp, turned to look out the end of the fly, and there about 15m away standing in the scrub staring at me is a giant feral cat, brownish-tan colour. It was massive, I could clearly see it was obviously a normal feral cat, I'm not going to try and pretend it was anything other. But it was easily twice the size of an average house cat. Once it realised I had seen it, it turned and took off.

Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.

Yes I enjoyed it when there were regular sightings of the Panther in the Canterbury backcountry. I extended the panther's range by recording his sighting in various hut books in the Lewis Pass area.
