    Why so many cynics????
If nothing else, it legitimises recreational hunting to the public. The Govt are saying "recreational hunting is a good thing and should be encouraged".
The programs that have run in the past are in a different time and a very different political landscape. @Micky Duck. I am sure Rex Forrester could have slung his rifle over his shoulder and walked into parliament to ask for money. We live in a different world now.
With the govt doing so many other stupid things, I for one am not going to poo poo a minister that is saying recreational hunting should be encouraged and they are willing to help fund it.

I dought joe public is going to join at all with the firearms lic waiting times and conditions. Its obviously young fellas who are all ready to go just need some guidance from nzda to get into it.
I think its only a tokin gesture but im glad NZDA is getting some funding but i think if they wanted to do something that will have results improve access its beyond frustrating going down a
paper road and hitting a private land/gate bullshit when there is suppose to be public access.

It's been years since there has been anything positive for hunters. 1080; firearms laws; FAL relicensing; helicopter culls; negativity in the media etc. This does sound like good news, but it's hard not to be cynical.

Hats off to NZDA and the Game Council.
This is an initiative for our times and in a quite different context to anything in the past.

    Supported by Gov
Putting our sport in front of the public
    Introducing new hunters
    Hunters as conservationists
Attracting metros to clean/green product and our way of life
    Legitimising gun ownership
Will highlight new license application problems
Might open up more DOC access

Its easy not to be cynical. You just need to step back.

I guess that's a rhetoric question?? (I had edited my post at the same time as you responded)

No, nothing wrong with a healthy cynicism. But Im suggesting that its also ok to step back and see the good in something. I see a lot of good in this and I also know that the people who initiated/negotiated this are smart.

It's all good to criticise the things that govt do that you don't like or agree with (I do it all the time) but why be critical when they actually do something worthwhile?? Makes it look like people are just impossible to please whiners.

If it's a paper road then you are 100% within your rights to walk on that road to get access to the public land.
