    Nick Harvey RIP

    Sad news from Sporting Shooter magazine;

    "Nick Harvey, one of the world’s most prolific and knowledgable gun writers, has died, leaving a legacy built on almost seven decades of dedication to firearms and hunting. During a career lasting from the mid-’50s until now, Nick wrote thousands of articles, published many books, was consulted in the development of new firearms, appeared as an expert witness in the Coroner’s Court, gave endless advice an all gun-related subjects and created a knowledge base that few shooters in the world could ever dream of matching."

    When I was a young fella Sporting Shooter was one of my "go to" hunting mags and Nick Harvey my favourite columnist. He certainly had a helluva lot of practical knowledge

    A life well lived. Inspired me as a young fella as he would have for many many others and his memory and contributions will live on for decades to come.

    I grew up enjoying many of Nick Harvey's writings.
    I remember he created a bit of controversy though when he backed the Australian semi-auto ban (publicly stated there was no need for people to have semi-automatic centrefire rifles).
    So one could say he was a prolific gun writer while also being a Fudd.

    Jeez, Nick Harvey has been around forever. I wasn't a huge follower but some of his published stuff was worthwhile reading. I remember first learning of him as a teenager at which time I was forming my interests in hunting and shooting. When I first got into handloading some of the more readily available info in this neck of the woods was penned by Nick. It would be fair to say his career contribution was significant.
    RIP Nick. I hope they give you some good posses in the happy hunting grounds. Thanks for being one of the influences on my path to acquiring hunting / shooting knowledge.

    I used his Reloading Manual to get into reloading as well. He wrote many great articles in Sporting Shooter that I still remember today.

    As a kid, I always looked forward to reading through the latest Sporting Shooter mag. One of best bits was the Ask Nick section where readers would write in to get an opinion from Nick, be it load suggestions, gear worth buying, ... He was very specific/prescriptive in his replies. The closest we have these days is Greg's couple of responses to questions in NZ Hunter mag.
