Was it a DoC hut? Which one?
Think Maca is referring to the 2 Japanese fishermen dropped off by chopper. On the due day out pilot arrived to find the burnt down hut and 2 bodies

Its not a doc hut it was a very old trappers hut that fell into disrepair and was resurrected buy some good people keeping an open mind but its not believed to be an accident

Bugger. I'm in two minds about "private" huts on public land (which I realise Ureweras are no longer). One side of me says they shouldn't be there in the first place, the other side accepts if they are kept tidy, they aren't causing any grief and could provide shelter in times of need. Don't find many shelters down here, I've found two in 20 years of hunting, and both were bloody eyesores...plastic and rubbish everywhere.

No matter where you go there are always arseholes that kill it for the rest of us. I tend to think being an ex trapper that huts in different locations are a good thing for lost hunters, trampers and day trippers. Safety in the outback isn't learnt like it used to. It doesn't take much to take your rubbish away. A bin could be 2 feet away for some and its to much trouble.
