Not quite venison

I promised myself when I get my little wagon sorted I'll get back out there chasing some venison for the freezer. Weather wasn't right for my favourite spot so just went for a stroll at another likely spot.

Not a spot of sign, did get a feed however... well snack anyway, best damn wild blackberrys Ive ever got into:P

Come across a fuck load of wallabies and every time I stalked up on a rustle in the bushes out jumps another, anyway that brings me to the point of this thread, I dont get much out of shooting wallabies and haven't really got a gun suitable for doing it on public land but if anyones keen flick me a pm and I'll take you out. Its easy going country so fine for any age/fitness level, I just wear socks and insulation tape and would probably recommend you did something similiar as its mostly bush stalking. I can provide transport but you'd need to bring your own rifle preferably suppressed (must be centerfire as its doc land) as they tend to hang round in groups. Anyway anyone in for some good stalking practice and some close range varminting give me a pm.

Forgot to add it comes with all-you-can-eat blackberrys and frog watching!;)

I didn't know there were wallabies around Rotorua! Might take you up on that offer one day :)

Wild blackberries are plentiful down here at the moment and Bloody delicious too.

We got them by the shit loads I would have seen at least 8 in 3 hours this morning, little grey ones though not those big red fuckers like down the way.

The Dama or Tammar wallaby was introduced into NZ by Governor Grey way back in the day.

Some escaped from Auckland and have slowly made their way down the north island ever since with big populations in and around Rotorua.

I believe they are now as far south as Lochinvar Station on the Rangitikei Plains.

We used to shoot them on a Land Corp farm near Rotoma back in the 80's as part of their pest control programme.

A three man team, one on the spotlight, one on the shot gun, and one with a .222 could easily shoot 100 per night and often get a pig or three in the process. :)
