holy smoke...a winchester!!!!! always wanted to fondle one of them.
good going, and good on you for looking after that rifle.
Awesome thread idea, I'm just "re-building" an opensight rifle, the Mauser Oberndorf I'm currently seeking a bolt for will remain open sights only, last ANZAC shoot I surprised myself, my 5 prone shots at 300Y with a Lee Enfield would have all dropped a deer cleanly.
In the meantime . . .

MKIII* with a factory 5 shot mag.
Recently bought a H&R 58 Topper in 30-30 (with a 20ga barrel too), so will use that on game with open sights as mounting a scope will be awkward.
Yeah same. My son is obsessed with flintlocks since the meateater episode where everything goes wrong. Looks like great fun.
Probably half of my hunting has been done with open sights over the years. Not so much any more as I cant see the front sight so well...

Nearly all of my early hunting was done with open sights - scopes were not what they were today unless one spent a lot of money and as a young shepherd that was in short supply- until selling deer became the norm - bought a new redfield to take into wapiti block about 69 and bloody thing fogged second day in there - took it of and yup open sights rest of trip including Stewart Island straight after coming out of fiordland - was thankful I had the foresight to zero sights before leaving on trip - all deer one shot so scope was no loss - If I was doing a lot of horse work would stay with open sights - horses damn hard on scopes at times - still a place for them
7x65R under a couple of 12 ga barrels
Nice drilling that
Oh just outstanding. I'm running a BLR Lightweight takedown that I need to suppress hunting over the dog. So had to go either a scope, but opted the Red Dot for simplicity. Just loving the old school rifles and lever actions. All you need up close and personal.
Range pattern MLE Arthur's pass a few years back.
Stewart Island, Marlin 30/30 borrowed from an older friend for the day. Beautiful rifle, superb balance. Shot at about 4 metres. Mate also borrowed my Swede carbine 6.5 and shot a white tail when it was asleep.Attachment 229420

Took a trip over to Waterfall in the Ruahines from the east a year or so ago. Shot this on a slip at 50 yards with an old mk1. Must have been a fluke, ive missed quite a few with it since.
is that 2 out holes in her forequarter???
