Fallow buck who drppped his antlers yesterday.
They have a change in attitude once they drop. No way would I have gone in the paddock with him a couple of days ago.
He's a grumpy little bastard when he's got hard antler up.![]()
Overkill is still dead.
My brother got this Kaimai stag with a yearling two weeks ago, would the leathery nubs have turned to velvet or is there something else going on there?

Same guy as my picture above.
Overkill is still dead.
Same guy today.
Ticks are giving him hell.
Have to dip him every ten days to keep on top of them.
We didn't have ticks here three years ago.
Overkill is still dead.
@7mmwsm my father inlaw sprays for ticks on some deer farms in Taranaki. If you want his number to chat with him on what could help you, let me know
On a deer control hunt in Nelson Lakes National Park that I took part in last month we saw two stags with good velvet heads. We left them for some lucky hunter if they ventured into the area. One yearling stag was shot that had maybe 3cm stubs of velvet so I guess it goes to show there are no hard and fast rules about antler growth.
@Billbob thanks. I'll message you once all the Christmas stuff goes away.
Overkill is still dead.
I'm using Bayticol. But it appears ten days and they are back.
I'm toying with the idea of torching their little paddock. There's a lot of trash, dead grass etc that the little buggers will be hiding in.
It appears to be the only area the ticks are.
Sheep and cattle around the rest of the farm appear to be clean.
Shore my lambs just before Christmas and didn't see a tick on them.
Overkill is still dead.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!

I know for sure it works well on pigs....might work just as well on deer for lice n ticks.... Give diesel vechille an oil change and use the thick black by product as a poor man's pour on. Couple of cup fuls down centre of pink pigs back and by next day had black pig that no longer scratched so much..but like brylcream and nits..... I'm told they do not like greasy/ oily environment....
