I bought a box of shells for the up-coming duck season last week at our only provider of hunting gear in Whangarei - H&F. $47.99 for a box of Valle Steel in 20g. Jesus! I thought- but the 20g steel stuff is limited and I wanted the ounce loads - everything else seemed similar pricing.

Over the weekend I was in Tauranga and got a chance to go into Bronco's. $31 for the exact same packet of shells! I've bought more for next year.

The monopoly in Whanga's is working well for them that they can be $17 dollars a box dearer.

Moan over.

I don't buy anything from them as had a falling out a few years ago over faulty product which they would not stand by. Won in the end as they were in the wrong, but they made it as difficult as possible.
Better fishing shops in town and buy anything hunting wise in elsewhere.
For clothing I buy at the rural outlets and its better to support them over these guys.

Our h&f is terrible. From the firearm guy to the manager. I'm not a fan. Have had some terrible experiences over the years and do my best not to use them.
One experience was a new 44mag. As I was unloading if fired and bounced round through my Nissan. Lucky it was in a safe direction. Either way it was a bad look near the farm house in the morning. They(hf) blamed me and wanted nothing to do with it. Ended up being a curly wurly sliver of machined metal in the trigger mech. It held the trigger down during unload.
There's more but it's easier to ignore them.

HnF are franchised. It works to your advantage if buying secondhand guns as they don't list the second hand guns on a combined website so some moneybags Jaffa is not going to come in and buy something on you that you see on Saturday and come back to buy on the Monday.

Yup, purchased a box of Nosler for $119 yesterday, just looked at Reloaders $79. In the past it has been $12 to $15 dearer.
Will never buy ammo from them again. Should have checked first.

Sounds like someone needs to start selling cheap ammo. After all your overheads wonder how thats going to go...

Maybe if your worried about ammo price buy somw extra for next year as mentioned by some.importers powder cost will be plus 20% at least next time around. I would have bought falcon this year but the local.shol didn't get any
