Thread: question for the Sika gurus

OK Ive had a google but didn't get much info,
So where do you guys think the best heads come from the kawekas or Kaimanawa"s
Sorry if its been discussed before but haven't been able to get much info,
Im not looking for anyones hot spot, just which forest park you would go if shooting a trophy was the mission.
I saw in a couple off books a lot seem to come from the Kaimanawa"s but was wondering is this because it gets hunted more.

Generally Kaimanawa heads are better.
Not sure why, better feed ?
Ahimanawa heads are poorer again.
Understand this is not set in stone, the occasional good head turns up

Really Ive always thought the better heads come out of the Ahi's, better tucker and animals get less pressure therefore more get to mature.

I would be happy with any sika head at the minute, I'll let you know how I get on this year it's my understanding that better food = better heads so maybe just let your fingers do the walking and google earth some places. No doubt all of these areas will have spots that are close to farm land or crop that the buggers have been munching on this spring.

Saw a very nice Jap stag after I had finished cutting firewood. Dog smelt him and we went for a walk. He will keep.Not in a Forest Park.

Kaimanawas generally has better heads, few pockets in the Kawekas.

A guy I knew Nobby R, now works for DOC, has probly with his father got more 8 heads than who...!!!! They hunted mostly the Waipakihi valley to the hut and the Urchin...too many river crossings for me tho...!!!!
