rangitikei river
hey peps, I'm heading up to Rangitikei river valley water rafting in a few week, I'm keen to do abit of hunting/fishing as well, has any one got info on hunting access up there?
Info is much appreciated, not interested in your hunting spots, just want to know what roads i should be taking to get to public land?

Hi burnsy, You are traveling from where to where on the Rangitikei. Its a long river and there is some good hunting.
If you are traveling from the Mangoahane bridge down both sides of the river are private land.
Fishing is good. No 1080 to worry about as far as I know. But anyway it would pay to check

You will need a special back country fishing licence.

Where abouts are you starting?? and finishing? DOC land is well up the river and there is no Queens chain in some parts. PM if you like and I'll help you out

Just take your rifle with ya when you go rafting and and shoot the deer of the side of the river!
There is maori land on the east side of where you are going rafting so ask the owner of river valley brian megaw who to ring to get permission from and how much as they charge for access.
Failing that go upto the comet hut of the napier taihape road and hunt the public land for some japs.
The rafting trip is awesome as I used to help out when they needed some muscle when the river was a bit high for some of oveeseas punters that didnt have to good a grasp on the english language.
The best trip iz the fly in headwaters trip which is a three or four night excursion in some of nz's most beautiful country.
Enjoy!
