Ehat are everyone's recommendations on type of rat bait? We've got the little shits everywhere but proximity to the bush means its hard to know if we're killing the current rats/ whether they are just being replaced by new ones. Also keen to hear anyone's successful DIY bait stations, I've just been going with lengths of whatever pipe i have sitting around, with bait pinned in there with no8

Rats well the old paint bucket with a could have drain pipes drilled through the side and trap in the middle baited with seeds works. Keep the lip on to stop the dog and birds settling it off.

Our cat does the job, hes a fantastic hunter. He left a huge rat on the footparth for us the other morning, another mouse at the back door this morning and usually one there most mornings.

Before we got our cat we had mice or rats in the celling scratching around keeping us awake but now complete silence.
He loves going under our basement garage so I guess he is getting them before they make their way up the walls and into the celling.

I put one block out and when its gone wait 4 or 5 days before putting another out. Apparently female rats will come back and keep eating it as it takes a while to work. I notice we get luls in them coming in that way. Theres bush near us that will be full of them

I use those blocks with the hole in them and just use a long screw to hold it to a piece of wood. I put it a bit up off the ground at a height where a rat more than a mouse can reach it. The screw once youve drilled it in once only needs to be finger tight

Sorry on mobile mode, slugs and snails seem to like the bait as well so I sprinkle salt around the bottom of the wall where the bait block is

Intel required - what are those mice traps called and where prey tell does one get them? They are the best looking trap I've seen so far, I like! Those plastic 'safety' ones can often not hold aggressively enough, I've had a few unset and thrown/dragged about until the occupant made it's escape. I don't as one experience like that and no more trap for mousey. I'm not in the business of training circus mice, I'm only interested in ending their time on this planet.

Some manufacturers used wiring that had soy based insulation that attracts rodents. Not the smartest idea but I’m sure someone received a bonus for the cost savings/being green.

Come down to the HB......I was staggered to find out that we now only have 2 Auto Electrical Workshops in Hastings. In a time when most breakdowns are not mechanical, but techknowledgy/electicaly related.

You must be breading super mice, or are they getting sprung by rats?
My wife's mouse count using the plastic traps is 15 at about one a day. No sprung empty traps. Likewise we set 2 traps in our accessable ceiling space. Never had a sprung empty trap only sprung traps with dead mice inside.

Rats are a different proposition, they eventually die in the bigger plastic trap version but you need to tether the trap, same as you would with a possum.

Have also got some rat traps free from the local council. Haven't bothered to use them as the plastic rat ones are so successful. Must set up my Good Nature trap though. I like the concept of never having to reset it after each kill. Only thing is you have to rely on the GN trap's kill counter as killed rats are removed and eaten by their "mates". No pile of dead rats under the trap.

I dunno, but I do know for a fact we get some big hua mice same as the fat arse rats. I think the issue may partially be to do with the fact that peanut butter is not our go-to bait as the little sods have too many other options in the form of garden and tree crops. Apple is one of our mainstay baits for traps - and those little plastic traps with the 'bait tray' arrangement with little nubs works for peanut butter but not for apple or other fruit baits.

What I've been doing is using the peanut butter as a 'glue' to hold the fruit option in place, and it works with tube traps and the victor style traps but I think the issue is the tray on the plastic traps allows the mouse to pull the tastier fruit piece away before they trip the trap. I think that this means that the plastic traps might only be getting a peripheral whack on the end of the snout or something that isn't fully fatal and it's allowing the rodents more fight time to eventually pull out from under the trap's jaws. With the Victor-type traps the fruit piece is hooked into the trigger plate and any movement or pulling on the fruit pings the bail arm straight onto mousey's head/neck which is quickly fatal.
