Pink tape hanging in trees is generally an indication that wanker wannabe types who have no respect for nature and our forest have passed that way. Rip it down and take it out of the bush.
To mark a point in the bush use a 'fern arrow' that is a piece of crown fern or punga etc upside down showing the silver underside.

It’s actually fun using your memory
Bending over ferns works pretty good too.

Whenever I was carrying out a track inspection and I found a line of tapes that led to a cannabis plantation in the park, I would remove the last 50 per cent of the tapes and reattach them to trees so they would lead back to the track.

until only very recently I never realised that pink tape was plastic... for some reason I thought they'd use something biodegradable...

Connovation do (or used to) sell biodegradable tapes. Not as reflective as the pretty plastic stuff, but If you're looking for it, easily spotted.

Since anyone can buy flagging tape, there's really no telling what it could indicate. Just that the human there before you, felt the need to indicate it.

The yellow and orange (second and third from top in stack) are government-approved plastic fantastic. The rest are the biodegradable. Under LED light at night. (now)

And I've just realised, even the biodegradable will choke a tree.
