We shot 3 deer up the top at the very back of that area a few years back. I can certainly confirm it is a prick of an area to carry animals out of!

Your right no meat is worth your life , you gave it your best try so that’s all you can do. There may be some better spots on the block to try next time.

That was a great yarn MD, loved it. The hunting game can be cruel.
Look at the positives, you cleaned the rust out of your barrel. Remember any day on the hill is better than a day at work.

Young enough to still do dumb things but old enough to know they are dumb and pull the pin - a smart move

Used to be a favourite block of mine for a hunt during highschool. Haven't been there in years. Good to see still the odd animal poking around. Bugger about missing out on them in the end

Pic must be deceiving. Looks reasonable to me. Not familiar with the vegetation tho and never hunted in NZ. Just a couple of holidays.

Bugger about the meat. Better luck next time.

@Oldbloke zoom in on second photo. The green plant is called Spaniard or more often bastard grass the tips are needle sharp. To the left of that down low is small matagouri.. lots of thorns and it grows very tangled...now bush lawyer....that's what blackberry wants to be when it grows up. As said,it took me best part of hour to get across to the more solid looking rocky bit of ridge.

That's the funniest thing an occker has written in many a year, aussie is practically farken flat - christ knows how they found the bit of slightly slopey ground to film "man from snowy river" on but there you go . . .

@Tentman. Yes, majority is flatter over here. But try hunting sambar in some areas in Gippsland.
I've hunted plenty of country as, or steeper than than that in Victoria. Plenty of gorges, too.. But not any more, too old. Blackberry is our worst. Always carry small pair of secateurs in those places.
