Hey gentlemen,
I know that this is going to sound bonkers....
But I just saw a fucking Wallaby on the remutuka hill, the Featherston side, about a 1km from the bottom.
I got a really good look at the thing. It couldn't have been anything else.

Hey @Neil4130 let Greater Wellington know.
They’re trying to get rid of those little shits.
Probably unrelated,but not too far as the crow flys.While on The DOC payroll in the mid 90's on animal control received a public siting of one @ Moonshine in the Eastern Hutt hills .Checked it out but never found any positive sittings or sign.Not saying it was a miss I.D.
There's certainly plenty of goats
There was a few roaming around a few years ago. Hopefully they can catch up with them all and not let them get established.

Diversity is our friend.
I'm out of town. Limited phone reception. I'll contact them tomorrow. 100% wallaby
what type of fwit would release them ?ffs
@Longrun
Identify your target beyond all doubt because you never miss (right?) and I'll be missed.
Thanks mate. Already followed up.
@Andygr
Not an in joke, a typo.
There was a number of them in Kaitoke on the other side of the hill so i'm not surprised.....
Farmers will be pissed if they get established in the Wairarapa.
A bit more inflation about the 2021 sightings

Interesting article especially the part about the males being castrated and one female desexed.
Hints that they escaped from somewhere.
Rod & Rifle Vol45 Issue 3 May/June 2024 has a four page article on Wallaby which shows their predicted range by 2025, 2035 & 2065 as being HUGE! There is a comparison photo of bush on either side of a fence; NO BUSH/Lush bush. I've never hunted these little buggers, but the damage looks worse than deer, goat or possums.
Recently, like in the past ten months there were six wallabies in the Kaitoke area, that's on the western side of the Rimutakas. Greater Wellington Regional Council shot all six I believe. I fricken hope so!
Penalties for moving or transporting Wallaby if up to $100,000 and/or prison for up to five years. So if you know anyone who is moving or transporting Wallaby, dob them in, you might get a share of the $100,000!
If you thought seeing a wallaby was weird, did you see the creatures in featherston
Just been one spotted in Cambridge to.
