Hopkins road to Monument hut was completely redone with Backcountry trust funding over summer, from memory, so should be pretty good. Can’t comment on the Ahuriri..

From gate to doc fence is pretty rutted, some wash out but if you can't get further, its not a big walk to the doc fence and car park.
Fence has holes on the left side people drive around but don't know why as you can't get up past the next big washout with a vehicle anyway. MTB or shanks pony from there.
Road standard BT50 with AT tires got all the way to the doc fence and carpark during the summer.
Yeah the Ahuriri was pretty good.
The ford just past the homestead was the worst bit, 4wd low and crawl through.
Got all the way up to the carpark at the end of the valley.
The Hopkins not so much, track is pretty good to about halfway up. Where it goes left to muddy ruts or right and a drop in to the river.
I turned around there as getting bellied with out a winch or recovery truck wasnt gunna be much fun.
I think I could have got it in there. Getting out back out of the river would have been the issue
For next time a winch and snorkel
Cut n half pointy wiretars to hook yr winch wire too.10lb hammer to hit wiretars into the rocky ground.Lot of the time people don't have anything to tie their winch too.

Cut your waratahs as long as possible and still fit across your vehicle so you can stow them out of the way. Most times you need more than half.
