30 06 with 180gr Accubond/Ballistic tip @ 2700 fps
270 Win with 145 gr eld x at 3114 fps
300 Win Mag with 178 gr eld x at 3000 fps, I like to use a few different calibers on different days.
Cool, do you have a sight/scope on the shottie?
Shit that 270 is honking Brian!!! Using that secret gas aye ;)
The same load as I use for the rest of the year ;)
She's pretty quick with Superformance powder.
No
Also a good thing - as I can use/leave my glasses on which I need now to see any detail
Locate with Thermal
Do the mea mea or meh meh - and get ready for action
Got Peltor earmuffs this year to try out - think they be good too, you hear ever twig crack at 50m - will see before passing judgement on them
You sure learn about what unessasary noices you making yourself with the muffs
Like sling swivels - get rid of
Boots need oil
etc
I have 2
Hornady 450 Bushmaster 250gr FTX ammo for close encounters with the Sika and
Hornady 7mm Rem Mag 162gr ELD-X Precision Hunter ammo for the bigger further out Reds
Geez boys and their toys... Good old 17hmr just behind the ear,
I hear ya
As I said - I will try them out
They wont be over my nose though
But I will ask you this
how many times have we given a Roar/Roars - been sitting or knelling down - then gone to move and - CRASHHHH
The bugger has snuck in (as the always do) and even given the fact I have actually good hearing still - havn't heard him even at 15m
These muffs will - I am certain on that
Blow flies are a bastard though - like b52 going past
If the 416 makes it out (which means I'm on the coast and made it out too), 350 gr Barnes x point circa 1998 somewhere between 2000-2100 fps.( f/forming loads for the 375H+H cases to 416)
My peltors done two days at toby shoot
Also .308, 178gr ELD-X sitting on quite a warm load of AR2208. This year I will be tackling them from further away than normal after knee surgery a few months ago. So have spent a fair few hours practicing with the new hand loads and getting the Tikka and scope into tiptop shape. I watched the big boys for a few hours last week and they are not quite there yet. Warming up but still some time before they kick off.
Sorry - misundi stoodi - again
The Stand shooters (notice how I said shooters not hunters) use them in "driven Boar hunts"
They reckon they can hear a Boar up to 1000m coming in - seems a bit far to me
Not great around flowing water or Sea - I find
With the volumn - should you have it high or down as low s you canbut still hear - hope you understand what I meaning
Sorry i was unclear in my post they were still going. I have never hunted with them myself. I was at a farm shooting gongs a week back and could hear birds like they were on my head. I took them off and couldnt hear them at all. They were about 100 off in some pine trees. My thoughts on hunting would be you wouldnt know what direction the sound came from
Mutt Muffs i shit you not, they are a "thing"
And I will be taking the first rifle I grab out of the safe, assuming I actually get hunting soon. Could really do with a break from work :(

My trapper is my number one rifle for bush hunting. I have the muffs but haven't tried them hunting yet. I spooked 5 deer on my last hunt, maybe with the muffs I would have heard them first...
Sierra 125gr HPFN for fallow, Hornady 170gr FN for reds, FTX for longer shots.
42.5 grains of AR2208 is looking good at the range for me, I haven't worked out max load yet, and I'm yet to see how the ELD-X performs on deer.
I need to put something on the deck with new-to-me sako 75 270 so 150 SGK @2900 for me

@Paddy My hearing is shit waay to much unprotected shooting & noisy work place from a young age reckon id trade feel & smell for amplified hearing in the bush any day of the week ,I can watch the feckers browsing on bushes 40 meters away & not hear them that great , bit of background noise not at all just as well im like a cat in the bush (hairy feet) they cant hear me either , stag loads big & heavy beats light & fast anything less than a 308 using 165BT ,s is a recipe for disaster & don't leave home without a decent beard I stopped trimming a month ago back included , wont be grooming till after the first Saturday in may by which time with a bit of luck my fence will be sagging with stag heads & il be surrounded by breasts , Good luck.
Smacked a roaring red 8 pointer over the other evening at half a km with a 150gr Nosler LRAB 270win a easy job for the hound to find after a hour and twenty minutes climbing across and down in the dark to retrieve, the downside of shooting long range. The rest of my roar hunting will be with my 300 blackout close up and personal 168gr Lehigh Defence CF subsonics only if my knee heals in time.
Better be careful @Boaraxa big hairy smelly beast of a man stalking through the woods you mite get mistakin for Bigfoot hunting a dear, make the news and be hunted ya self
