Tbh I think choosing to carry extra unnecessary items/weight for yourself would be making your own bed. In the case of producing a TV show everyone is involved and it should be a team effort. Bit average imo, maybe Im wired differently. Good to hear you are sending some stuff their way now though.
There's pro's and con's. I'm pretty used to a heavy pack, and when we're moving around, I also don't have the pressure to spot game, select routes, and make decisions that impact the group - I can just plod along following the feet in front. If I saddled someone up with an extra 5kg, it would impact the way they're used to hunting.
Lately I've been dishing out the tripod to any other hunter who isn't carrying a rifle, the sticks weigh around 4kg so it's pretty similar weight to a shooter. This speeds up the process of getting a shot set up as well, as the tripod isn't attached to my pack. Brad (from our Fiordland episode last week) isn't a big guy, but he's as strong as an ox, and so far is the only hunter not to shy away from carrying my big zoom lens for me on hunts, seen here -
For those interested, weighing gear at the hangar before departure on the first part of last nights ep, bodyweight was 95kg, pack was 36kg, then tripod and camera weight was a little shy of 10.
