Another thing, and I notice NZ HA does this too, why oh why do you do describe in yards and inches?
We went metric in 1976, before most of the RSTHC lads were born!
Is it to appeal to the American market?

MOA scopes, probably outnumber mil scopes 10-1 in hunting terms.
And horned and antlered beasts have always been measured in inches. A 1270mm wapiti trophy sounds ridiculous.

@The Hunters Club awesome! Excited for a new season! Question- will you be making Season 6 available for digital purchase? I’ve purchased the first 5 seasons & love being able to chuck em on a device to watch while at camp, particularly great way to pass the time when stuck at camp due to weather.
Season 6 is here - https://vimeo.com/ondemand/huntersclub6
Will make series 7, the current one, available once the first broadcast run is complete, probably in early December
Some may think metric is in? Tell the US that! I believe the main issue is that US factory tooling is geared up in imperial though have metric equivalent for the overseas market. It would cost billions to change their aircraft build industry etc etc. When i was in the airforce in the 80's 90's, all the aircraft manuals were imperial, same as other military hardwear. Metric is reserved for Europe! So todays generation if they can't work with both, maybe back to school? lol
Legend, thanks for that @The Hunters Club. Just purchased and looking forward to watching a few eps at camp next weekend. Not sure how I missed it on the site when I looked before :D
Have you watched the shows that are funded? Bunch of Muppets chasing animals around farms, missing/wounding game or having some chased by helicopters until they are physically exhausted then the host pulls of a crap shot. If that is what funding puts on TV I am happy to watch The others push their sponsors.
@The Hunters Club do the guys not help you by sharing the load of camera gear etc?
Tbh I think choosing to carry extra unnecessary items/weight for yourself would be making your own bed. In the case of producing a TV show everyone is involved and it should be a team effort. Bit average imo, maybe Im wired differently. Good to hear you are sending some stuff their way now though.
There's pro's and con's. I'm pretty used to a heavy pack, and when we're moving around, I also don't have the pressure to spot game, select routes, and make decisions that impact the group - I can just plod along following the feet in front. If I saddled someone up with an extra 5kg, it would impact the way they're used to hunting.
Lately I've been dishing out the tripod to any other hunter who isn't carrying a rifle, the sticks weigh around 4kg so it's pretty similar weight to a shooter. This speeds up the process of getting a shot set up as well, as the tripod isn't attached to my pack. Brad (from our Fiordland episode last week) isn't a big guy, but he's as strong as an ox, and so far is the only hunter not to shy away from carrying my big zoom lens for me on hunts, seen here - Attachment 178533
For those interested, weighing gear at the hangar before departure on the first part of last nights ep, bodyweight was 95kg, pack was 36kg, then tripod and camera weight was a little shy of 10.
We thank you for all the effort you put in Dave, lugging the gear around for our enjoyment & I'm sure yours as well. Carry on the great work team :)
Ditto , we all enjoy it and appreciate the extra effort to film that stuff , it looks easy on TV but to try and hunt and capture it on film is next level in difficulty , full credit to you guys
I always feel for Emil...of NZHunter crew.....the episode that really got me and shows how big this fellas dedication is...was the one where Greg finished the hundred summits with fella...epic climbing...and there at the end were a few still photos with young Dane right there!!!!!!
really enjoying your show, keep up the great work...had to laugh seeing the old Bic flick waved past camera .
Any one catch the episode last night? Missed the start but was wondering what location they were in ? Plenty of chamois and a few reds. The country reminded me of the Matukituki
Managed to watch the 2nd half or so but didn't hear a location
Private land, surprised whitetail didn't feature in it.
Someone please tell them a female Chamois is a doe, not a nanny......
Here Prime catch up make yourself a free user, you don't need a Sky account and watch the rest of it. I missed last nights so am going to watch it tonight.
@The Hunters Club Dave ill carry your pack mate.
Just make sure I'm on a few trips
An eagle eye would of seen a few in the hut.
Probably not something they want to show, I'm sure they seen a few but poaching or general wandering of people probably puts them off showcasing it to the world
@The Hunters Club
can you tell us what the elastic field covers are the guys using on there guns?
also what was the watch with the drop chart on last nights show? be a garmin of some sorts.
The watch is a Garmin Tactix Delta Ballistic edition, quite a sexy piece of kit. Elastic field covers - not quite sure what you mean (cameraman Dave answering this, so not as savvy at firearm related questions). Anto uses a sling made by Solo Huntr which often gets queries from viewers.
Spot on. There were plenty seen, after spending so many days stalking the buggers on Stewart Island trying to capture a glimpse on camera, it was a hard task not filming them prancing about in the tussock country. We've made a call not to do any mainland Whitetail episodes though, there's enough pressure on the herd without us making it worse.
He'd be referring to one of these I think Camerman Dave

Yup it looked like a solo hunter mountain light rifle cover:

I have two of these and they are a great bit of kit. Bushbuck make a similar one as noted above.
Love the show too, really enjoyable to watch every Monday night. Have it saved on my calendar so I don't forget. Keep up the great work Dave & the team.
