Ruahines....advice needed

Hi guys, anyone recently been to either Ruahine Corner hut / Ikawetea hut areas?

Looking to do a spring fly in hunt, just want to know pro/cons of the two areas, i know there sandwiched between 'cousy bro' land.....

Ruahine corner is hard hunting because the bush is really thick but holds a lot of animals. The hut is great. If walking along the edges at dusk watch out for tomos as there are heaps of them everywhere and some of them are monsters. Head to the creeks or up the tops or walk the bushline/paddock areas. We used to fly in out of Taihape with Wanganui helicopters.

Awesome NG, didnt know anything about tomo's in the area......im usually looking at the floor anyway :thumbsup:

Ikwatea has some nice slips and feed faces so good spring country, trout in the river too .Not as hammed as ruahine corner.

Be really careful about which ridge you drop down if heading into the Ikawtea from Ruahine Corner - very easy to get bluffed.... and be very aware of Ruahine Forest Park boundaries....
