Check with the local Fish and Game officer. I've always found them useful on these sorts of issues.
Or check with the local police. They will be the one's that turn up if a complaint is laid :oh noes:
What Stug said. Fish and Game also publish (or did) a pamphlet called Accessing the Action or something like that, that tells you how to, um, access the action
Walking access maps should give you some idea as well, wouldn't do any harm to have the, as printed out when you go ask f&g or police
I asked a similar question last year I think. The answer is not straightforward. In some cases, private property seems to end in the middle of the river.
No one owns the water !! , I rung doc last year & asked a similar question they put me onto the local ranger all he said was so long as you have a permit or licence & your not on private land as far as they where concerned no problem but he pointed out it was upto me to prove I was within my rights to be were I wanted to be if the local landowner kicked up a stink.Quote:

1 thing to remember when shooting a river is that you dont shoot across the land on either side
find where you want to shoot,then go knock on doors to "inform" of intentions if nothing else it will make cockies less nervious that some twat shooting stock in back paddock.
Quite sure there are only 2 rivers in the south Island where the land owner owns to the centre of the river. The rivers are the Shag and the KakanuiQuote:
