Hiya guys, had a call today asking if we wanted to take the Siberia block for the last period. So just wanted to know if any body had any experience in this block and your thoughts on weather we should take it I also found out the it was 1080 last year?! What to do leave it or still have a stab? Thanks Sam
I would leave it and try anywhere else. Had it once for the second period two years ago and there was not a deer in the place, apart from one single animal track probably from a deer passing through owho had probably made a wrong turn on the way to somewhere else.
Nor was there sign there had been any kind of deer numbers in the past. The airstrip by the hut gets used all day every hour on the hour dropping off trampers so that might have something to do with it. My researches before going in showed deer numbers to be very low, and our experience reflected that also.

Check the 1080 map - I think you’ll find it got hammered recently
Yep, unfortunately it'll likely be slim pickings in there. Magnificent country. You'll see more chamois than deer.
Saw a 10 pointer on the track from Kerin Forks the last (and only) time I was in there. 'Twas January 1974, though.Quote:

With all the rain, the river was pretty high, so we couldn't cross to get it. We ran back to the hut, grabbed the boat keys and managed to get the boat right up to it to pick it up. Was an adventure coming back down the rapids to the hut in the dark, but made it in one piece. It made a miserably wet weekend into a neat adventure and lasting memory (hopefully) :D

I also shot a reasonable 12 in there the following year post roar. Right on dark I hit the bush just down stream of the hut, and bumped him holding some hinds on the bush edge. I rushed the shot and lost him among the crown fern in the head of a small creek, spent about 2-3 hours looking for him. It haunted me for ages, confident I had made a kill shot, so I went back a couple years later to the area I lost it and as luck would have it stumbled right onto him. I must have walked past him half a dozen times that year I had shot him. He hangs in our hallway now :)

Flew through there last weekend with my son, just having a look around. Stunning country. I say give it a go. Any day spent up there fruitlessly looking for deer is still going to be shit loads better than staying at home working and doing chores!
