Accuracy is limited by:

Typically you can only get a bearing to +/- 5 degrees with a standard silva compass and im not sure its any better with the compass app on a phone. It would be real good to have an app in your phone camera which showed the bearing when you point a reticle at the destination in the picture.

Distance could be a problem if the ground or line of sight is sloping but your map is flat.

A zoomed in photo of where the deer was can be helpfull if you mark on the pic before leaving your firing point.
