I will be back shortly...just need to check on my chooks. And I must get something to suppress this cough...don't want an arrow through me.

Take your shoes off ya bloody girl..."didn't want my feet wet"... FFS
Gumboots!!!...you are supposed to be a bow hunter...you know, super stealth mode...not glosh glosh glosh.
Which track did you go up today?
good on you for getting up there! hand held gps unit, topo map compatible is a good piece of kit to make sure you can get yourself back to the track. Did alot for my confidence when I got one and learned how to use it properly.
Especially in the kaimai where navigation can be difficult, dont forget to pack the good ol compass as well though. wouldnt expect to hear too many roars at this time of year tho.
maybe a chicken with stags attiude??
At least the chicken went up there:D Good on ya GNAR:)
Pilchards....definitely Pilchards
I got access from sth 29 before old kaimai road
Thank you @Rushy, I am having a hard enough time extracting information as it is...of course he could have come from the East or West.
Me being me if I saw chickens in a block around here I'd smack one over and eat it
Yep, that's a decent stream to cross. The old tramway clearings are well worth a look along. For hunting that area a compass is all you need as you will only be venturing either East or West and that is simple enough to get back to the track. If you go in off Old Kaimai Road you will cut out a fair bit of the track from the summit.
Id stick with just a compass and topo map .
My gps has a hard time keeping up and if your just going a wee way off the track the compass is by far the best friend youll ever have.
Like I said , north south track is a good place too start , but don't get too carried away till your confident using a compass too get back too where you started . Your either going too head east or west too return too the track so its not rocket science , just don't panic and leave yourself plenty of time too return.
Spook has a good point about wounding critters with the bow , perhaps you just spend some time in there with a camera until you start finding some good country .
The archery club sounds good , but the nearest bow hunters club would be a better idea.
Will do!
I found this organization called bowhunters society.
I'm planning to join them. It was pretty hard to move around off track with all the thick vegetation and my bow keep snagging to all sorts of thing.
Next week I will go deeper into the wood where I found the droppings.
Hopefully I will find some deer trails with foot prints next times.
wait till you get 15mtrs from the track
20 metres will probably be an overnighter
Fantastic footage Mohawk.
Bloody good skills there,
Great vid Mohawk, i find it hard enough with a rifle never mind a bow!!!!!!!
I really like that video mohawk. I like this one too.

Holy crap that video was AWESOME.
And to the new fulla, keep it up mate, keep getting out there but please also be careful. And keep up the trip reports! Your nativity (sp?) is quite charmingly funny, you remind me a big of "a good keen man".

Good head on that one Rusky:cool:
Fantastic vid Mohawk. I keep trying to get that shot with the video, but no sucess yet.
There is an archery club set up on the main road heading south out of Hamilton past PAC and save. Have a play there first before you fill animals with arrows and see them run off to die a painful slow death.:(
I spooked a couple in there on sunday. Didnt see them and they were only 30 metres away. I find the west henderson tram (carpark by bridge on old kaimai rd)
to be a better and quicker way in to better areas of bush. If you see a deer in there it will definitely be in bow range!
Never liked the idea of leaving a car there.
There was some old homeless looking guy living in that car park for a couple of months a few years back.
