Spots on goat kidney?

Hey folks. Bowled over a couple of goats on the weekend on DOC land. They both looked healthy (but it was dark by the time I got to deal with them so wasn't looking close). Took the quarters and a kidney home, then noticed the kidney had two spots about 3mm across:

Anyone seen this and know what it is? TB sprang to mind first but I didn't think goats got TB. Keen to hear any ideas on top of if in doubt, throw it out (already know that one!)

Probably harmless if cooked properly but I say if in doubt throw it out.

Spots on organs can often be forms of cancer, or tumors (but you can't really tell if they are malignant or not) ...

Quick search says they're abnormal

I would have thought you would have crossed paths with a pig , Paul has eaten a heap of goat from that general area ask him if he has seen similar

G'day, Im a Meat Inspector.
Looks like chronic damage from a bacterial infection. Judgement would be petfood the kidneys and pass carcass for human consumption. Really just a cosmetic defect.
The Immune system has overcome the bacteria and it isnt still present.
We inspect kidneys as an indicator of systemic infection. If an acute bacterial infection has passed through both kidneys then it must be in the arterial blood system and could be in any tisssue.

If it was acute the spots would be Hyperaemic (red) petechial haemorrhages. Could be a caused by number of different bacteria. Lepto springs to mind. If that was the case Id be looking for any other evidence of infection, Liver, Lungs, heart, guts, carcass. Judgement would be condemn everything.

So I've been wondering for a while how often people get sick off game. I started hunting for a lot of reasons but one is that game should be better quality than most farmed meat. More varied diet, sunshine and fresh air and all that... true free range. But not so much if you catch lepto. What's the lowdown?

I agree that wild game is probably better.
Your chances of getting sick from anything you shoot is pretty slim as long as you look after your meat and cook it well.
The biggest threat to your health is shit, warm temperature and time combined.
As for disease, usually anything serious is obvious. Wise vietnamcam says. If in doubt throw it out.
Personally Ive only ever thrown out bruising and Shit.
