    Stag skull mount

Hi guys, yeah got a red stag during the roar and half arsed cleaned it up, even that was a mission.skin, boil, water blast, maggots ect. I still have a small amount of flesh left on the skull which has hardened with time. I have now decided to make a mount for my room and want to clean it up.Is it to late to reboil then peroxide? Will the flesh come off without destroying the bone? Also what are your best methods of cleaning to hang on the wall? Photos would be good, come on I know you want to show off your hard work.

Don't know about the re-boiling, but you could try soaking the skull for a day or two, might rehydrate the flesh and make it easier to clean off.

As for whitening, with mine i got a 1L bottle of 50% peroxide off trademe for $20 and poured that into a container with water till is covered the skull and let it bubble away, think it was 12-14L of water in there
When it stopped i hung it up in the sun for a few days and it slowly whitened up, it didn't come out gleaming but was a vast improvement on before.
you could always use more or higher % peroxide or even simply tape up the antlers and spray it with flat white spray paint.

    Hope this helps

Good advise, soak it for a week or more and then re-boil in an old 25L paint tin or similar.

    Looks mean mate.
I'll have to hurry up and get pics of my stag up, just need to finish the woodwork and bolt it all together.
Looking forward to the impending "discussion" with the missus about where i can put it

Hahaha everyone has to go through 'the discussion'
luckly the missus is lax about this kind of stuff, she grew up on a farm with her dad and bro mad about shooting so she's used to seeing dead stuff on walls
But we've agreed that i can have a mancave when we buy a house and they can 'all' go in there.

Apparenlty the thing to do is demand that you want it in the bedroom and as the argument heats up she'll storm off and say
"You can put it in the louge but it ain't going in the bedroom!"

I am the missus so mine's going in my room!

I've got mine still in a bucket out in the wash house, should probably give it a second go cleaning it up tomorrow. What was the success in the end mate? It looks bloody awesome.

Did you just cut the skull with a hack saw?
