I think of finding deer the same as I think about finding good surf.

You can't just turn up at the beach and expect there to be waves, nor can you turn up on a mountain and expect there to be deer. If you find the right terrain features, pick the right weather and get there at the right time of day, you're more likely to be successful. Basically stack the odds in your favour.

How old are your daughters? My daughter is still a long way off from using the 308, but have a nice sized kids 223 and what a difference it has made to her confidence.
