Thread: Strippin Sika Q

Hey team, from the experienced sika people out there, when can we expect to see the sika stags strip their fluffy stuff and be all coloured up. I have a mate of mine asking and as i hunt mainly reds im not sure if they are the same. So is there a general rule??

Given their roar is about 1mth after the Reds I would same 1mth

I have heard them roaring their heads off in March.
Shot my best one on last weekend of March around 25 yrs ago roaring and all coloured up.
So depending on season I would say the same time as reds.

My best one was shot in mid March and fully stripped and stained a few years back now though

My brother just got back from week in kaimanawas,shot a massive 6 and a smaller 8 pointer that were both stripped and had well stained
antlers.Will get a couple of photos up here.

Yes he is a beauty 191DS shot him in an area not so well known for sika, pine country with plenty of grass so he grew a nice head, also it was after the eruption and ash covered a lot of this country and must have acted as a fertilizer. Several better sika heads were shot that year. Shot him in 97 I must confess it was in the light but it is what we were doing back then and to me it makes him no less a trophy, you still have to put in the hours.( And we spent thousands of hours spotlighting) I would much prefer to run into him in daylight though.
Unfortunately our house isn't really suited to mounted animals to low a ceiling and to many heads to fit in.

Dependant on areas when sika strip there velvet . My 11 pointer has stripped and looking good. And to stir the pot a little, hopefully we will have some 12 points on the ground next year .
