    Tararuas -Western Entrances ?

Guys, any public entrances on the western side other than Otaki Forks, preferably a bit more north, closer to Levin ?

The boss is doing a farmhouse/style cooking course thing tomorrow, so a good excuse to go for a bit of a tramp in that area.

If not, I'll just head back down to Otaki Forks and maybe aim for Field Hut and back, got about 6 hours walking time...

    Cheers

Naa, it's the biodynamic milk place in manakau, near the waikawa shelter.

Peach of a day to be out in the mountains. Made it up to Field hut in 2:20. Jeez, you Kiwis don't exactly have a lot of flat country here, I'm from a place where you can travel 80km in any direction and not even find an anthill... My 40+ year old legs are not going to be happy in the morning

Was surprised by the number of birds out there, considering they bombed it last weekend... Saw 2 eastern rosellas as i left, always enjoy seeing those, very pretty.

Damn how I wish that my legs were only forty.

    Haha Rushy,

How many years/decades can I add on for a youth spent playing just about every sport and a couple of adventure activities. Starting to pay the price big time...

Growing older is a bitch, your mind reckons "no prob, I'm still 21" but the old bones have a different story

Put your pack, boots and helmet on for the runs as well Dougie. I would suggest the rifle as well but the local residents might get a bit concerned. As for your getting crook all the time Dougie, make a conscious effort to wash your hands less and still eat something even if you drop it on the deck (i am a firm believer in the body needing to ingest germs in order to develop anti bodies) and for fuck sake stay away from doctors surgeries as they are full of bloody sick people.

On the way down yesterday I saw 2 guys going up. One army grunt in full kit, carry a big stick to simulate rifle + instructor providing some "encouragement" from behind. Poor sod, didn't look like he was having a fun day

I've got a big stick that is the same weight as a styer, I carved out the four values into it geek much? Helped me for my BFT though! Maybe I should do some boot runs with patrol order!

find a trail running club and start running around the hills with a few others. great for fitness and meet a few more people as well. not only that it is alot safer than running by yourself. there is a few strange people out there.
