Seems the Kaipo area is due for a repeat treatment. Deer repellent will be used, but still dodgy for dogs, of course.

Do you know the dates?
Sorry just saw July was planning on heading in in June so won’t bugger my plans up
The map shows the entire clements RHA being treated ffs.
Jesuz again, dosnt seem that long ago, probably 3 years though :oh noes:
Just seen the map they are doing the poranui block over the river from Otupua helisika block as well
Bugger. Are they using Deer repellent?
I recall assurances last time; that it was to be the last time. Where is the bovine Tb ? Poronui?
Was just talking to an ospri guy on the phone. They will be using Deer repellent. He reckons it reduces bykill down to 10 percent. They are also giving out free muzzles for your hound. Not defending the drop just putting the information out there.
Anyone know dates?
Pity the public does'nt comprehend that they're paying for this bs.
The Oamaru Kaipo jct is known as Te Rauti. It was a major base for eel capture by Maori. The tributaries of the Oamaru and Mohaka are still great for eel. These waterways drain east.
On the west side of Te Iringa klie the headwaters of the Waitahanui, Hatepe, Tauranga Taupo, Waimarino and Waiotaka which are all major trout habitats and drain into L.Taupo.
They’ll happily eat it.
But it won’t do anything to them.
1080 affects the Krebs cycle in animals. Which means mammals are the most susceptible to it as a toxin. From memory A type of finch is the most resilient to it, I’m not sure if that included aquatic animals though.
Dogs on the other hand are extremely vulnerable.
I doubt it, sub lethal doses are generally metabolised quite quickly but I’d only be guessing regarding fish to be honest.
It does break down very quickly in water though.
@Moutere. You Re wro g on all counts. 1080 poison will a cumulate in aquatic organisms and can pose a serious health risk if trout are consumed. I do not know of any trial which conclusively proved that ani.s, birds or fish that having consumed 1080 poison are safe to consume.
If you want .ore facts then go to www.1080science.co.nz
Do not assume this poison in any form is in any way safe.
As an example; three baits will kill a child. Trout can accumulate large amounts by eating mice. So can eels.
Invertebrates are susceptible and so are the insectivore birds.

No I’m not.
If 1080 accumulated in the body myself and many others would be dead by now. If you want a poison that accumulates then go for Brodi your off the shelf rat bait that so many throw around their house without a care. MPI put that recommendation on trout etc so they don't have to do expensive testing to back up the fact 1080 doesn't accumulate in the body.
You do not know the residual effects even if you appear normal.
Residual effects is completely different to accumulation. Also due to a huge amount of medical tests I have had since I left the industry I have no residual effects and all the people I know that are in or left the industry seem as normal ( normal being a relative term with that lot :P)
Ha ha. Fair enough but others may not have been so lucky. Take care :)
Where did you geet the facts sheet? it doesn't seem to be on the hit list?
