Terminal performance - Hornady 143gr ELD-x Precision Hunter

I was meat hunting over the Easter break and managed to shoot three hinds in quick succession, all from the same spot, ranging from 27m to 254m using the 6.5 Creedmoor.
I was using factory ammo, being Hornady 143gr ELD-x Precision Hunter.
Normally, my animals are shot at ranges <100m so have never recovered a projectile as they always pass through.

The projectile shown here was recovered from one of the hinds shot at 254m. The bullet missed both front shoulder bones by mere mm's, broke some ribs, devastated the vitals and was sitting under the hide on the far side.

I did recover the projectile from the second animal shot at 254m, but it had smashed the entry side shoulder bone and fragmented. The jacket and core had separated, with the largest fragments embedded in the opposite side shoulder. Unfortunately, I left the bits in the bush.

Great to see. This is exactly the ammo I use in my 6.5 creed. Have shot 3 deer with it so far. All less than 100m. Haven't had much trouble with bullets exiting and seem to drop the animals pretty well. Cool to see them working well out at those ranges too.

Good to hear about that. I've yet to shoot anything with those so nice to hear they have good terminal performance

Identify your target beyond all doubt because you never miss (right?) and I'll be missed.

Both animals shot at 250m dropped on the spot.

I've found they kill very well.in the PRC.even big stags seem to give in quickly.

The 147 put me off in the prc as they were very explosive. Wish I had of tried the 143.
The lrab would be the go too

Here's the damage of the 143 ELD-X on a red spiker at 10 yards, muzzle velocity 2890 fps.

Went in through the shoulder, punched a big hole in the ribs and exited through a rib on the off side. Slightly down hill shot, tipped over straight away with a big hole through both lungs. Did not recover the bullet.

ya want to be using the 147 for long range stuff,350+ they are decent.

Work amazing when you smoke the shoulder as well :)

yeh thats typical expansion i was gettign in 162g eldx 280 rem @2850fps out to 450m- they worked great.

I run 143eldx and 147eldm. The 147s are bloody excellent for longer shots as mentioned above.
