Head up Thompson's Track until you get to the Toll Booth (I'll be manning it) directions given upon payment.

Buy the spot x book. Will provide you with hunting access options for the entire country including options in the kaimais. Then just go get amongst it and be safe out there.

@DavidGunn gave you about as good a tip as you can get considering he lives right there. You could do much worse than check in with him and have a cuppa and a chat on your way in I suspect.

10MRT shooters do it 60 times, in two directions and at two speeds.

Yep be very careful up there this time of year, some over eager hunters coming in from both the bay and waikato side, a guy living about a km down the road when I used to live there was shot and killed a couple of years back.
Take every roar you hear with a fucken big grain of salt and wear hi viz

The Autumn rains start next week, this maybe the last chance of wallows that have made it through the dry, once the rain starts every dip has the potential of being a wallow...streams are very low and water may not be scarce but animals will definitely travel or hang around what water there is...the replanted forest below the track will be holding deer as it always did when forest was mature but is not for the faint hearted to try...personally, if I was still hunting I would be up high and early, by early I mean 3 am and sit and wait till day break...of course if you are not an early type of person then I am probably the wrong person to ask.

I’m guessing that strategy requires camping in the hills? Or is it traveling into the bush in the dark?
