    Thompson's Track

Have people given up hunting the area?...the number of vehicles at the road end is noticeable by their absence, I guess the state of the track puts a lot of quads and two wheelers off venturing up it and pretty much only dedicated 4x4's are trying it out but the foot sloggers seem to have gone elsewhere...a lot of deer were taken from the area over the winter, although some I seen taken were a bit on the lean side but with all the grass about they should be as "fat as pigs" now.

Bloody rugged up there at the moment due to 13 slips a few years ago and not cleared by council...there is some good forestry tracks that would suit you but access is dependent on knowing the right people.

If you were down a side track you were probably not on DoC land

I went for a walk up there a couple of weeks ago, i walked up from the bottom on waikato side, track is buggered and most seem to turn around halfway up.

Went up 100 acres and the grass was long and lush but doesnt seem like anything was feeding on it.

Hey are you located close by Thomson’s? What about the tuahu? We go up tuahu often for just quick day walks. Planning a few days camping and if we don’t go away we will spend a few night up the tuahu but I’m not sure about leaving the Ute parked at the gateway for a few days.

Yeah I live near the track, I have seen you a couple of times when you were exercising your dogs...you can leave your wagon at my place and I can run you back and forth to Tuahu.

A couple of weeks ago, there was a complete drum set on top of the track . I don’t know who brought it up there , but a mate of mine played a bit on it.

Hey thanks! That would be awesome. Still looking at my options because I really want to head down CD way. Iv never had any troubles leaving the car on long day walks but iv heard there’s been some vandalism before.
