Thoughts on Turkeys Nest/Nardoo etc. remote area hunt

Hi there. Just looking for any thoughts/opinions or review about these remote hunting blocks. I heard the deer numbers reduced after 2021 chopper open to Nardoo's area. Not sure about Turkeys Nest as I can't find much online info about hunting over there. I don't mind long hike like 10hrs+ if it is likely to see deers. Just need to fill up my freezer. Happy to hear anyone could share more ideas that would greatly appreicated. PM is always weclome.

FYI: Have been Leatham and Downies couple of times. Lots of hunting pressure and can only find dead animal. Won't consider Downies again as I don't have a decent quad and the road condition is quite terrible for my bike.

Turkeys nest biv which is accessed via the wye route, I hunted there once. Lost count of the goats.. a big patch of broad leaf on the track from boulder forks side which would be good after a windy day if you stalked around there, but again, there were plenty of goats in the bush too. If you were going to put the effort into a big walk nardoo would be the way to go. That area is loaded with deer and almost no goats im pretty sure

Probably worth noting, if you put in the work along the leatham or branch you will definitely see deer. There are good numbers, over populated in the harder to get to valleys and basins. The key to these areas is walking up the side creeks into the open stuff, most people dont really venture too far off the creek beds etc. There are places in there i fairly regularly see 20 plus deer in a day, mostly overnight hunts though with early starts or walking in the dark to get to the hunting grounds

Just be aware it can be rough in there someone got choppered out last weekend

Been for a walk into the Turkeys nest once and saw goats on the way in and deer on the way out, and that was just from the track.
To get to Nardoo you need to cross the Matakitaki river which can be an issue.

Always seen deer and chamois in the Leatham and Branch, more so in the upper reaches. Top Leatham up to the Severn saddle and Lost Stream / Top Misery are worth looking at. Does get a lot of pressure so you've got to have a bit of luck on your side but spring and summer out in the tussock seems productive.
The Wye and Hidden hut area seems to hold more pigs and goats than deer. Rather than Nardoo Id look at the area around the Mt Curtis hut.
Walk far enough and look hard enough and you should do ok

Thanks mate. I have been over boulder's south bank ridge and walked up to 1200m just below snow level last week. Quite early in the morning but still couldn't see any deers. Lots and lots of droppings and looked fresh tho. Will try walking up creeks next trip. I heard 7 shots on the other side of the hill as well. Not sure exactly but about caves direction. Felt upset a bit to hear those shots tho...

Yeah I believe Matakitaki river still running high and snow start melting, raining every week as well. Will be a big trouble to cross. Better leave it until summer. Thanks mate.

The Nardoo is good for animals, but the best side are the catchment areas emptying into the Glenroy. Try Cascade creek and push for the top, you then have awesome scoping into the head of the branch creek, or hang right and sidle toward the Station creek saddle all of the south branch Glenroy head slips and bush fingers to hunt. A few goats through there but not over the top consider shooting any after you have your deer. Quite a few Chamois through there also.

I thought it needs to access private property to get through to Glenroy. Is it easy to deal with?
