    Timaru hunting

Hi everyone, I'm a young hunter and I've recently just moved to Timaru. I'm keen to get out on the hills to chase some wallaby but also want to get back into deer as well. Can anyone point me in the right direction for this? Not asking for a spot x but general advice or possible stations to contact would be great. Cheers

Don't bother with east from Timaru, you'll just get wet feet. Just saved you 1/4 of your time....

Think there are a few forum members in that area that might get in touch with you if your lucky

Iv traipsed around all over Alford Forrest since I moved here couple years ago. Gone way up all the major rivers etc. Overall the public land hunting in Canterbury is shithouse compared to Southland/South Otago where Im from originally. To really get into serious action in Canty you need a helicopter ride in, just to put some distance between you and the weekend masses.
There are deer poking around in the front country here and there but they are cunning and generally nocturnal.

wallabies...try mt studholm first. job done
deer..... go to doc office in Geraldine where you got permit for mt studholm, then keep driving north for about 3/4hr to place called mt hut and go for a look.if you have the skills to stalk quietly into the wind the bush stalking can be very rewarding...if you have patience sit and glass till you find animal then stalk in close and escort it home to the freezer.
I dont have patience so had to learn to stalk...and being a podgy bugger that is done slowly.

been spending a bit of time down there of late.....even for a north islander finding something to shoot didn't seem that hard...and southland is not that far if all else fails
