I wish they would stop calling them hunters.
Yes i spotlight occasionally LEGALLY but i call it what it is not hunting.
VC, the problem is they ARE hunters.
My solo trip the other day, there were 2 guys staying in the hut across the river. They were spotlighting - DOC land.
The instructors on my HUNTS course were making jokes about going out spotlighting on DOC land...
I hear what you are saying, but every time one of us turns around and says that the muppet who shot his hunting buddy, the muppet spotlighting DOC land or the muppet caught poaching is not a hunter, we are taking the ostrich approach.
They are muppets... Here in Rotorua I feel embarrassed to call myself a 'hunter'. Heaps of these twits (older guys too) are out there every second night, poaching, spotlighting. U name it...
The likes of my late grandfather would be nothing but saddened by their disrespectful attitudes.
They need a fucken hiding...

Dob em in. Simple.
If we cant our own house in order then we cant expect to be shown respect by non "hunters".
It is no good sitting around and waiting for another Rosemay ives type of incident to happen and wringing our hands and condeming the authouritys for lack of action unless we do our bit.
Rang over. Carry on.
Fucking android !!!
Fixed it for yah.
Thanks. Fat fingers on little keyboard = trouble
I think it is sensational bullshit the media is feeding off, myself. So now it seems, every time some scroggan eater gets a headlight from a turning vehicle shone on them or hears a shot a night, they will freak out and claim they survived death.:wtfsmilie:
What happened in Turangi was horrible. It was caused by stupid people. However I see it as no different to a daylight shooting. The same fundamental mistakes were made.
It will soon be over. Once the GAC is in operation all torches and lights will be banned. Only carbide lamps will be allowed. :D
If you drive down Kaimanawa Rd and have a look at where that poor lass was tragically killed, you will see how easy it is to happen. It wasn’t quite as it was portrayed in the papers.
Anyone that spotlights on public land should be dealt to.
True R93 but it is still illegal anywhere but private property with permission.
It also Fucks you off when your trying to get an animal in daylight and there is a barrage of shots at night where you have planned to be at first light.
Dan, I hunt pigs with dogs... now days I don't like being labelled a pig hunter . Long story short I had to take my family for lunch to meet the extended family that owned some land to gain permission to hunt, the other daughter has come back from overseas and has seen pig sign, she told the other neighbour she may have to get 'Rambo' in to sort the pigs out, the stigma comes from all directions
Although the neighbours and myself had a wee laugh at that one
The young dog hunters do themselves no favours around here
I see tagged onto a lot of these posts "posted using tapatalk from phone x" and that makes me think that the solution to this problem is in our pockets
If you carry a phone you've got a camera and a GPS - dox the fuckers using that.Publish and Prosecute.
Take pics, go to the cops with the pics, put em up on fuckbook, get em out there. Say where and when and get a few convictions racked up.
As real hunters we are the best placed people to do something about it cos we see this shit
If you want a clean house sweep regularly
The FUNDAMENTAL and CRUCIAL aspect of unrestrained idiotic behaviours involving firearms is that it provides ammuniation for the anti gun lobbiests...no one is ever appreciated for hunting in a respectful dignified manner(except by our respectful dignified peers), bringing home the best food for the household...it is only the bad stuff that hits the press and gives leverage to brainstorms by people with little brain and understanding. The maxim 'any press is good press' just simply is and never will be for hunters.
I think you guys advocating 'dob a knob' are correct...
But actually reporting them is a lot harder than it sounds.
First you have to approach and not get shot and ask names that they won't give you and possibley get a hiding for your trouble.
On the nelson forum hunt we had people spotlighting and fireing centerfires within 150m of one hut full of people, the river mouths where people are often camped and about 400m from our hut.
It was an incredibley dangerous and stupid thing to do and there was talk of jumping in the boat and going and having words with them, I talked us out of it as we had been enjoying a few drinks and in all likely hood so had they.
I could just see it all goin pear shaped in a big hurry.
Now you all know how us dairy farmers feel when the latest pitch fork wielding mob come up our tanker track:)

Sorry too cryptic? dairy farmers like hunters get tarred by the same brush as the f-wits eg craifer farms starving animals, Poor effluent management "dirty dairying". Media only show the negative stuff! Fuckn frustrating. Mob wielding pitch forks is a metaphor for the media beat up and everyone that jumps on the band waggon.

Ah ok.
Certainly dairy gets some bad press, some deserved some not.
Few that spoil it for the rest as usual.
As far as lamping goes it has always been widespread, but media grab hold of any incident especially since the shooting of the school teacher.
Also there is more people than ever using our public land.
