The circular ones such as in the above pic, or a heart shaped one, very similar, work great. Very simple to put up, use the mesh from an old mesh silo but cut it down to about shoulder height. No need for a gate, just use the mesh as in the pic, pigs will push it open to get in, but cant find how to get it open. They have to be pegged down real good as an old man boar will lift up the edge, and I do know of some pigs that climbed the mesh to get out. Must have thrown themselves at it and then used their back legs to push on over. Maize, apples, spuds, dead stuff all work fine. And when you arrive the pork is still fresh and not stressed, until they see you or your dog. Also you dont have to check it every day. Have seen one in North Canterbury that was maybe 20-25 metres across, absolutely littered with bones and stuff, had been there for years and caught hundreds of pigs. Cocky would only check it every week or 2 as there was plenty of tucker inside to keep the pigs happy, best catch was 17 pigs in one go! Check out clearing sales or cockies yards to find an old silo mesh, can be expensive to buy new. Good luck, post some pic's.
