poor bugger makes my broken femur hunting accident seem trivial compeared to the damage he suffered, I am still in recovery mode and just had a bone graft to try and get it to heal fingers crossed.
we are lucky we have a really good LANDSAR search and rescue operation in NZ and it saved both of our lifes.

For me the lesson is you can never be too careful.
I have an InReach, but use it differently depending on where I am.
In the mountains I always have it. Normally turned off. If I’m on my own turned on. If in narly area, on with tracking.
On a farm, definitely not on, probably in a pocket somewhere inside my pack.
When you read about these sorts of incidents, it’s clear they need to be externally attached, and probably on with interval tracking at all times.
