    Wairere Falls Hunting

    Hey guys,
I'm thinking of doing a day hunt in there on Saturday. It will be my first time in there. I read in the spot x book that it was never milled and the bush is a bit more open in there because of it, does anyone know if that's true? Sometimes that book isn't that accurate, it says there's chammy in the pureoras haha. Any info on the area would be much appreciated.
    Thanks guys,
    Phil

Walked up month ago.. Left car park we could pick any space. Came down to find car park completely full of cars with 100 mtrs of roadside as well. Folks everywhere its that time of the year.
I reckon you ll find North South track in this nice weather pretty busy. Inlaws walking group did a major excursion up there the other day and she reckoned she counted 30 folks they passed.

Nice and easy to get to. Heaps of locals do fitness work up to top. Heaps take kids dogs etc for a walk then you have tourists of course as well. Hobbitton then the falls walk

Fairly safe parking at the bottom. obviously don't advertise stuff. Go give it a go.. Its a neat walk very scenic as you've seen. Busy / dangerous in the roar IMO

The great thing about hunting up top above the falls is that it is so flat without distinguishing landmarks that most people walk the tracks fearful of getting lost...ditch the gps, use a compass and walk 90 degrees either side of the track...you probably wont see another soul.
Deer numbers in the Kaimai's are high, judging by local gathered information. There has been very little rain and the streams are at a trickle, anywhere there is water will see the deer at both ends of the day.

Which is worse, ignorance or apathy...I don't know and don't care.

That would be a bit lower down than the tops and tourists

I for one wouldn't wear blaze in the Kaimais as in the afternoon the setting sun throws some wicked light patterns...'leathel' posted a photo taken behind my place some time ago showing this.
I have been watching the forestry boys moving around on the hill sides...the yellow hi vis stands out all the time...the orange, once faded and dirty looks like animals moving through the bush.
