Have reported to F&G as they have a record of similar interactions with anglers.
    Area manager is reporting.

Went back yesterday and pretty much got told by neighboring property to F*** off and not steal from their cupboard before we had even walked out the carpark.

Should have pushed on as where we were going was all Doc land and perfectly legal but didn't fancy coming back to a vandalized or stolen vehicle.

On a positive we drove on to another block and got a nice fat red so not all bad.

Keen to hear from anyone else that's had this issue in that area and how they have dealt with that sort of thing.

    Cheers
My son got threatened on the Waitahanui on friday...usual bs ... we own the river etc crap. His reply you dont even have a licence... reply we don't need one. Got very ugly. Sad.

Who said they were on the dole MD?

The fact you used it is enough to imply it. They said it was their cupboard according to the OP.
I agree with with the rest of your comment's for what it's worth though

check the electoral roll and find out their name and report them to the FSA for not being fit and proper.

Just because you live near public land does not give you any more ownership of it than anyone else. If they don't have an FAL it won't be their cupboard....

Here's another approach that's worked well for me in the past.

Take a 6 pack of beer, introduce yourself and let them know you live in the area to. State your intentions and you often get a much warmer welcome despite the legalities and sometimes doors open like 'just take a shortcut across my place if you want' - now I know you shouldn't have to but sometimes you need to be a bit more strategic rather than push the point.

There are too many dickheads about that you can see why some people get a bit uptight. If you still get a frosty reception, then just get dropped off and give them a wave on the way past. Easy.

I probably should have read the thread properly before I jumped in and will no doubt get flamed because of it.

Bailing someone up in the carpark is a bit on the nose. Regardless, some of what I said is still applicable so ill leave it there.

Some of my best hunting has come about by befriending these types rather than push against them.

Ive had great success with the same gesture many of times but those have been with genuine hard working farming types. This particular guy is neither

All you north island hunters can stay away from the south island as this is my pantry.
