I wouldn't have too higher hopes of seeing big numbers in places in the Haka at the moment. We had the wallaby competition a couple of weeks ago and Excell pest had been doing poison work - actually went in laying poison on our block while we were shooting it - we only realised when got back to the hut to find a poison notice on the gate!
They have been laying a lot of 1080 baits for approx the last month - you will see wallabies but more like a dozen rather than a hundred.
they have been driving all over one of the DOC blocks very recently doing poison work - we still saw wallabies(Friday) but not big numbers.
As Dougie said make some noise when going up threw the scrub if you get on a ridge overlooking some scrub throw in a big rock or two or roll a large rock bown into it and watch
280 Gibo??, pal the Wallabys down here on the mainland are so big that you'll be undergunned if you don't bring a belted Magnum
Gimp got lucky once, shot a couple in the eye with a 6.5, even then one of them got up and fucked off.
He was lucky it didn't come looking for him.
Love it fuck they sound as bad as Aucklanders!!!!!
Possibly not quite that scary.:)
I'll delete that.
irresponsibly not in the theme of my magnum theory.
the only other time i have been to the hunters hills was going up the long dirt track to the top antenas on mt studholme. saw about 5 wallabys (and also a van that had flipped and burned out!)
I've shot a few in the Hunter Hills, and as they are a pest, I'm sure you would be able to get access to private land if you ask. Saves their ammo shooting them. I was told by the owner of the block I was on that they shoot 3000 a year to keep the numbers down.
