Thread: Wanganui river, West Coast

Has anyone walked up the Wanganui to Hunters hut lately? If so do you try go as far as Smyth?

Also is it possibly to hunt up Pokers Gully from the bottom? Or am I better off climbing to Blue Lookout or trying to get to Devastation Creek.

I was up there in March. There is not much left of the track since the flooding the year previous so allow some extra time for Route finding around wash outs and bluffs ect. I understand however this may have changed is that the track up to smyth is damaged and only accessible by heli. But don't take my word for it maybe check the doc website for track updates.
