Went for a tikki tour in their on Saturday I'm getting back in the rhythm getting the "feel" for the roar,
Drought conditions all minor water courses dry some which I have never seen dry this will be influencing where the animals are holding up.
Eventfull trip I picked up one half of an 8 pointer, got onto fresh sign, found one large roll of builders silver foil unfortnately I misplaced this over the nearest slip so apologies to the owner oh and I carefully removed all your white tape too for you as it had been left behind
Coming out onto the Leyland OBrien came across drag marks heading up the track puzzled as to what it could be just below the caar park found the source SAR, St Johns & Police carrying a woman out on a stretcher broken ankle I offered to give them a spell obviously a very hot day and some of the old boys were struggling

Sounds like you have never been up there. This area gets hammered almost ever weekend. I was up there last weekend and so was everyone else. The bush is thick in most places and hard to hunt. In saying that there is the odd deer up there but you are more likely to meet up with someone else.
Not a place to hunt if you dont know what your about.

Just follow all the white paint, pink and red ribbons and and you should go around a circle , ending up back at the car park.

I might be wrong ,as I havent been up there for a while now.
We used to get our Quads up the first section which was a mission and a bit hairy .
Talking to a mate it sounds like they done something to that section of the track to stop Quad access that way?

Adam there is a lot of access into the whole area along the Waihi to Tauranga road that are worth a look .
Have a look on the topo map for doc access closer to Waihi and go for a walk you might surprise yourself and less people.
The deer are in there you just have to find a few spots and keep coming back .
The bush is tight in some spots ,ok a lot of spots but there is also some nice areas.

Imho. It is the quads that have trashed the track.

I thought it had been blocked so bigger vehicles couldn't get through, only quads.?? Looked that way last time I was there anyway.

Mate said to me a few months ago that had done to that first bit so nothing could get thru?
but I have not seen it .
The times I used to go thru it seemed a mission just to get Quads up first bit and then you were right from then on.
more the quads ripping that part of track up .
Thomsons track is 4x4 damage more so.

It can't remember when I last tikki toured up or down the "bully track" of late I have gone up the steps TeTuhi reason being I disturbed a couple of hinds right at the top one afternoon which would have been a "friggin" easy carry to the truck. I digress though certainly been some slips on the incline of the bully where it narrows up some what but no physical sign of anyone trying to restrict access. I was under the understanding that DOC had guaranteed limited access when the TeTuhi was handed back to the local Maori's this could be hearsay but I had a conversation with a local hunting in their one day along those lines

Always had situations like the following photo's depict up at the "Blade" but generally over the 15 yrs. or so I have been hunting in their no trouble I tend to evaluate the vehicles when I pull in for a hunt too many hunters then I head off some where else that's the beauty of the Kaimai's plenty of access points

Walked out of there last Sunday. Old quad track is still hairy on the first section and the rest is pretty much rutted up to the extent that you would belly out on it. Meet 4 so called hunters that had traveled from Auckland to !! there words (Blast the area ) !! I was glad they had finish and were heading home. There are a lot of wana be hunters go up there because they think you can just walk in and shot a deer. Its not very often that there isnt a vehicale in the car park.

Went out today from 10-3pm. Was a good day. Some very fresh sign both print and poo. Met up with 3 guys. 2 were surveyors who were looking into the land because of new Maori settlements in the Kaimais, and the other gentlemen was a possum trapper by the name of Dave. Such a wonderful place to walk, so flat, which was very nice for a change. Found some bloke's fresh up bottle with holes riddled through it. Pretty hairy as it was about 50m or so from the track. Also found lots of bottles which were a bloody pain to drag out and farrkin disgusting. Ah, the sign is also shot to shit. All in all, good day out.
