What to do with this opportunity?

Who on here has usefull knowledge of the Preservation Inlet area, Fiordland? I have a mate moved down to Tuatapre area earlier this year, he is a keen sailor type and is buying a big cat to sale all around the south, Fiordland, Stewart Island ect, he is willing to take a week or two off next roar and visit the places you can only get to by boat. He has suggested the Preservation area, but he is not a hunter so is taking a random stab, we can live on the boat and he is going to go fishing and craying during the day, while I look for bambi's loud and angry dad! The wife has given permission for prior exploration trips, but some research is needed.

Had the phone call about buying boat being confirmed at 5pm today, and have been jiggling about with the idea ever since, the wife thinks I'm really only 4 cause I can't sit still!:D:D:D:D:D:D

If your goin in the roar check you are not goin into balloted blocks.

That only applies to the Wapati blocks, not going to go that far around (at the mo anyho ), I get the feeling you have to have "special" connections to get a block permit, some people seem to manage to get blocks year after year while some apply year after year for over a decade and never manage it.

James (our son ) and I were fortunate enough to be invited to stay at Kisbee Lodge in Preservation Inlet. We flew in from Tuatapere with Dale Green.
James finished his last exam at Lincoln on a Monday, we were at the lodge by Tuesday afternoon.
It is a fantastic part of the country, try googling Cromarty Township, there were pubs, schools, banks etc there. Kisbee Lodge is built on surveyed old Cromarty sections. It is unique in that it is a privately owned dwelling in the middle of the DOC estate.
PM me and I can share some info. Big ocean down there. James and I hunted down to Sealers Creek No.1, from the Pysegur Light Oil store. ( Google that) The Inlet was calm but there was a 6m swell running outside!

Be defiantly worth a look around there, sounds like a great opportunity. Crayfish, Paua, blue cod & a good chance of some venison. I've dropped hunters off at Spit island years ago.

You could explore that country for days from a boat like that. Just work out what permits you need for certain areas, ie make sure they're not balloted and go for it. I wouldn't limit myself to one spot or fiord.

Would love to do a trip like that. Combine all the good things into one big adventure.

Get into it man, make sure you take some photos for the rest of us to gaze enviably at....

I spent a week down there on the "Takapu", which used to cater for hunting/fishing parties in Chalky/Preservation. I was lucky enough to enjoy a meal at Kisbee Lodge, but as you say - that is private premises, and quite unique in such a wild place. I hunted Coal Island - not a lot of animals on there. Plenty of sign around Puyseger lighthouse area.
Fantastic fishing, and the divers had a ball. Fishing is off limits up the top ends of the fiords, so be careful.
RESPECT the sea down there. It's no place for novices!!!!!!

Yeah, I feel a bit like I've been put in a round room and told to find the corner!, That's why I put it up on here looking for some direction. The nearest I've been to that area is when I worked and hunted in the Greibe valley a lot, a decade and a half ago.
