So is the rugby shorts, singlet, and long johns "uniform" the standard on both Islands?

Yes or alternately the jacket they make.

The plain dark green pull over your head type Swannie with lace up throat is best. I've noted they now do that in a full length zip version too. It's an experience to wear one and I've certainly been grateful of mine numerous times pushing through bush lawyer and the like.

Hah. I wouldn't wear another damned Swannie for the life of me.
Wind cuts through them, and soggy heavy damn things when they are wet. And the water they hold freezes them stiff when the temp drops.

I wore out many of them while in the bush and farming (although they mostly rip-thats another bad thing about them).

They are best now left to yuppies as a fashion statement.

I still have a couple of fashion statements in the cupboard somewhere Tahr, ones hardly been worn

Best kept for Friday night attire in Hamilton. Or wear it to the Te Rapa races. Will likely go down better than your Hawiian pattern shirts.

Yeah ....but back in the day before all this fancy-nancy 3 layer poly esther (oh boy was Esther a go gal...)now as I was saying the swanny kept ya arse out of a sling when darkness fell and a fulla was geographically, momentarily embarrassed and had to roll up under a log til daybreak....well done the swanny....!!!

I came off my motorbike in one twice and my uncle caught on fire in one, both still got skin i would rate em, maybe not the best but fairly versatile at least in the less than freezing north

I live in my swanndri but when it comes to hunting I have better options

I still have a couple but they are only used for warmth around the property on winter days

It's a huge beer gut, 4wd full of spotlights and a casual disregard for where you throw your rubbish. The clothing part vaires person to person.
