What range should I sight my riflein for hunting Tahr ?

    Hi Guys,

I normal hunt the Bush in the Urewearas, never been Tahr hunting , but have been invited on a hunt.

What range should I sight my rifle in at? As currently it is sighted in for 100 meters , I was thinking of sighting it in at 200 meters...

About 2.5-2.75" high at 100. Depending on your calibre you'll be able to use a dead on hold out to 300 yds.

If it is a Mowhawk 660 in 308 using factory 150gn then 300 may be stretching it just a wee bit for a dead on hold.

Good to go. That extra barrel length will add about 100fps over a mowhawk.

Get some practice killing 2ltr milk jugs at 300, if possible shooting awkward angles off awkward positions doing it. Shots under 200 are common, but so are shots at 400.

Here's a 150 soft point federal , have a play with the drop boxes , has short range 100 y zero and long range 200 y zero ,gives you some idea of drop

Meh that link didn't work , select 308 from the options

At 2900fps will drop about 13.5 inches at 300 yds. At 2800 will drop about 15 inches at 300

I have shot most of my Bulls under 200yrds.my best at 80 ish
Good advice above but remember your uphill down hill shooting if it is steep.
You can still over shoot animals inside 300 yrds with a 300 zero in cals like .308 etc.

Be lucky to be getting 2900fps or even 2800fps with factory ammo.

Even less I reckon depending on barrel length. 2800 max with anything shorter than 24" and that is around a 12" drop at 300 with a 100 zero.
