What's it worth??
So just finished reading the no 1080 for the Blue mountains and saw a comment on "deer being classed now as a game animal and not a pest".
Which got me wondering how much the hunting industry as a whole is worth too NZ.
Not just deer stalking but also duck, pig etc.
You need to take into account-
1. All money spent. On gear, tents, boots, rifles ammo, batteries and food beer:thumbsup:
2. Transportation, petrol, tyres, etc
3. Accommodation
4. Volunteer work carried out for your sport. Ie anything that would improve the habitat that your animal lives in and you do free of charge. What it would cost to have this done. Just remember that this is also time that your not earning a living so it's like days off with out pay.
So how much do you each think you spend?
Add it up we may have a very legitimate argument to have our resource reclassify :thumbsup::thumbsup::O_O::D

Sure adds up! Hut maintained, helicopter time

Too much according to my wife!!!
-
My wife will never know ...... such financial dealings remain below the radar.
-
As do mine, SiB.
I call them investments, but strangely seldom sell what I've bought.
-
I refuse to add it all up, because its something that I enjoy greatly, I need to do it and it is a part of who I am so I dont give two sh*ts what it costs, if it costs a bit of coin to come away with great memories and amazing experiences then so be it.
I quite often think to myself when im sitting on the side of a mountain somewhere soaking up the view just how lucky we are to live in such an impressive little country, there are people that pay thousands and thousands just to come and take a look.
-
I can't count and better I can't remember, I've start to buy more of what I already have :O_O:
-
Bugger all money fro me. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. And if I'm going to make up a bit of a story it might as well be a good one.
-
I've told my Wife that I am going to try and not spend any more money on hunting, camping or tramping gear.
I won't spend any less, but I can try not to spend more.
-
Ok I see your guys point.
But the point that I'm trying to make is that if you take say the economic view of rugby and how every kid buys an all black shirt you will sort of see where I'm coming from...I hope. If not then just think of golf:sick:
So take the turn over of say Hunting and fishing stores NZ wide, Swazi, Heil Siki just an example of some of the industry's in NZ that would not be there if hunting was to no longer continue in NZ.
In the uk 600000 shoot.
Nearly two million hectares are actively managed as a result of shooting.
Shooting is worth two billion £ to the uk economy.
Shooters spend £2.5 billion on goods and services.
Shooters spend 3.9 work days on conservation and equivalent of 16000 full time jobs.
Shoot providers spend £250 million a year on conservation.
Yes the uk dose have a few more people but my point is look at those pound signs and your average person is not going to vote for something that you can see pays in so many good ways.
I pay 550 for my phesant shoot.
Around 1000 on ammo.
750 on clay shooting.
1000 on kit.
600 to 800 on petrol.
200 on flowers :wtfsmilie: wife :ORLY:
Not sure how much on the dog food etc let's say nine 30kg bags of food a year. About 315
Around 70 odd hours of voluntary shoot work.
So that total comes to around 4200
3150 for the hours.
Now maybe you get the picture.
If we could get together and show how much we spend on the local economy we would have more power in parliament on issues like 1080 etc maybe

Just read some of this. The guts of it is that they don't know what hunting is worth to the local economy.
But it must be a bit as we have 37 H&F stores, Gun city, Hamils, Ridgeline, etc still can't seem to get a decent goggle search on value turnover.
Anyone have some knowledge or idea? Cheers

So it looks like we spend an average of $296.78 a month:thumbsup:
X12 = $3561.36:O_O:
If we go back to the Doc stats they recon on 50,000 active hunters
50,000 X $3561.36 =$178,068,000
Shit who says we don't have an active part in the economy.
Now I know that we don't all spend that every month, but you just need to have a look at the Stewart island book web site and see how full it is to have an idear.
So then I'd say that Doc needs to at the very least add deer replant to all there 1080 drops. As there hurting the economy of NZ by not doing this.
