    Whitcombe/Mikonui area.

Hi All, Just wondering if anyone has been in the Whitcombe or Mikonui area in the last 12 months or so and what sort of animal numbers are around. We're thinking of having a look as it looks as if our Tahr block might end up with a big dump of snow, so this would give us another option. We realise that tahr in that area will be on the thin side, if any, but hopefully there might be a few Reds and Chamois to look for.
    Cheers.

Good numbers up the Whitcombe, don't have to go far from the carpark

    Mikonui, similar story

Doctors Creek holds good numbers just in the other side of Hoki Gorge, and you can get to Mikonui that way too

All deer related, unsure about the chamois

Thanks for the info Waipuna, I was starting to think numbers might be on the low side with WARO happening, but it mightn't be that bad.

I was in there around Easter weekend, fresh sign each day. Plenty of sign on the gravel banks even after I had trudged through

Plenty of people getting choppered further up the valley it seemed
